“Thy words were found, and I ate them, and thy words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart; for I am called by thy name, O LORD, God of hosts.”

Jeremiah 15:16 (RSV)
Good health is a gift from God! Food is vital for sustaining life and is necessary for the existence of all of God’s creations, in fact, food should be viewed as medicine. How is your physical diet? what are you eating?
If we are honest, we often take our good health for granted and do not get alarmed until we begin to lose it. When our physical health begins to decline, we usually look at our diet and physical activity. Without proper nourishment, the human body becomes weak and cannot function properly.
As a Nurse for over 35 years, I have witnessed the resiliency of the human body. However, we are not as resilient as certain animals. Have you ever wondered how long some animals can live without food? Statistics reveal that a bird can go for 9 days without food, a dog 20 days, a turtle 500 days, a snake 800 days, and insects 1200 days. In the process of starvation, the human body does not emaciate equality. The loss in percentage to the brain is 35%, the lungs 15%, the bones 14%, the kidneys 26%, the heart 27%, and to the liver 54%.
The same principle applies to our spiritual life. How long can you go with spiritual food? Regular nourishment for our soul is vital for the Christian life, just as physical food is for the body. Amazingly, there are many that appear to be comfortable going for months without spiritual nourishment. God has prepared a healthy diet for us and desires we eat from His table and not nibble from His Inspired Word?

The Word of God uses food as metaphors to demonstrate the importance of ingesting God’s Word, making it a part of our lives.
We need spiritual food to thrive spiritually in our relationship with God to avoid becoming weak and weary! God’s Word provides MILK (1 Peter 2:2); MEAT (1 Corinthians 3:2) and BREAD (Deuteronomy 8:3; Job 23:12). It is sweeter than HONEY (Psalm 119:103).
The Word of God is not something merely to study or read but to be “eaten” by God’s people. We read the Word, but we then pause to “chew on it” while meditating and reflecting on the meaning and application for our lives, (Psalm 1:1–3). God has spoken to us in His Word, the Bible, and imparts life, (John 6:63). Jesus again uses a food metaphor, when He fed the 5,000, referring to Faith, Salvation, and His sacrifice. He says, “whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink” (John 6:54–55). We need spiritual food, the Word of God, to do the will of God, and we need Jesus Himself.

“But he answered, “It is written, `Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4 (RSV).
This spiritual food is “every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Jesus emphasized the importance of spiritual food when He was tempted by Satan and the Word of God still works today!
FATHER GOD: Thank You for providing the physical food for our body and spiritual nourishment for our souls, in the Precious, Powerful and Preeminent Name of Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord, Amen.
