The Heartbeat of Love That Never Stop Giving

August 18, 2024

But just as it is written, “Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, and which have not entered the heart of man, all that God has prepared for those who love Him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9 (NASB)

“And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.  For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren.” Romans 8:28-29 (NASB)

Karen Cheathem, one of our prayer partners shared with us during our session this past Friday morning a profound statement, “Love Never Stops Giving”.  The statement stayed in my head and I had to do a graphic to share and take a deeper look into its meaning.

How would you explain the phrase Love Never Stops Giving? To understand this phrase one must have a healthy definition of ‘love’ which is crucial to understanding the central message of the Scripture. The Word of God is clear that love is not confined to being sensuous, nor is it primarily a feeling at all. However, it does teach that love is a commitment. As a commitment, love is not dependent on good feelings, but rather on a consistent and courageous decision to extend oneself for the well-being of another. That commitment then produces good feelings, not the other way around. Jesus became the perfect demonstration of God’s unconditional love for us by laying down His life for our benefit.

So, What Does Scripture Say  LOVE is? ~ A bird’s Eye View of Love is Explained in Three Scriptures:

John 15:12-13. “This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you. “Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. Here is how to view it, the greatest love is shown when people lay down their lives for their friends.” Love is willing to sacrifice for the good of others, even to death.

1 Corinthians 13:1-13A summary of 1 Corinthians chapter 13 is that: Love is patient and kind it does not demand its own way and love never gives up. This famous chapter about love gives us one of the most eloquent descriptions of love ever written.

John 13:34-35.  “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this, all men will know that you are My disciples if you have love for one another.”

1 John 2:9. The one who says he is in the Light and yet hates his brother is in the darkness until now.”

1 Peter 4:8.Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another because love covers a multitude of sins.”

1 John 4:12. “If we love each other, God lives in us, and his love has been brought to full expression through us.”

John 13:35.  “By this, all men will know that you are My disciples if you have love for one another.”

Being a Believer in the gospel of Jesus Christ comes with certain expectations, and one of them is that we will love others. Our Christian conduct is proof as to whether we love each other and loving each other is proof that we belong to Christ. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.

In essence, my ministry focus explores and expounds on the concept of living a balanced and holistic life in Christ from the perspective of the interconnectedness of spiritual, emotional, relational, practical, and physical. Let’s look at LOVE from that perspective!

The Nature of Love is Selfless and Unending Love as an Endless Resource: True love is not a finite resource that depletes with use. Instead, love grows and multiplies the more it is given. This is because genuine love is rooted in selflessness, always seeking the best for others without expecting anything in return. Love is resilience, it never stops giving. It endures through challenges, disappointments, and hardships because it is founded on commitment and sacrifice, rather than on fleeting emotions.

Spiritual Perspective: God’s Unconditional Love – Divine Example of Endless Giving: The phrase “Love Never Stops Giving” reflects the nature of God’s love for humanity. God’s love is unconditional and unceasing. Scripture says in John 3:16a, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son” This ultimate act of giving shows that God’s love knows no bounds and continues to give, even when undeserved. In the Christian faith, Believers in Christ are called to mirror this divine love in their relationships with others. The commandment to “love your neighbor as yourself” noted in Matthew 22:39, exemplifies a love that is ongoing, compassionate, and always willing to give, regardless of the circumstances.

Emotional Perspective: Love as Healing and Restorative – Healing Power of Love: Love that never stops giving has the power to heal emotional wounds. Whether it’s through acts of kindness, words of encouragement, or simply being present, this type of love offers comfort and restoration to those who are hurting. Emotional resilience is often found in relationships where love is a constant force. People who experience unwavering love are more likely to feel secure, valued, and capable of overcoming life’s challenges.

Relational Perspective: Building Strong Connections – Strengthening Bonds: In relationships, whether between family members, friends, or partners, love that continually gives help to strengthen bonds. It creates an environment of trust and mutual respect, where each person feels supported and understood. Even in difficult times, when conflicts arise, or when patience is tested, love that doesn’t stop giving seeks reconciliation and understanding rather than harboring resentment, this ongoing act of giving fosters deeper connections and long-lasting relationships.

Practical Perspective: Love in Action – Everyday Acts of Giving: Love manifests in practical ways through everyday acts of kindness and generosity. Whether it’s helping someone in need, offering a listening ear, or simply sharing a smile, these small acts of love have a ripple effect, spreading positivity and warmth. The commitment to keep giving, even when it’s challenging, demonstrates a love that is proactive and intentional. It’s about making a conscious choice to give of oneself, time, energy, and resources, because of the belief that love is most powerful when shared.

The Impact of Continuous Giving -Transformative Power: Love that never stops giving has the power to transform lives, both for the giver and the receiver. For the giver, it nurtures a spirit of generosity and fulfillment. For the receiver, it provides assurance, support, and inspiration. This love creates a cycle of giving. Those who experience it are often moved to pass it on, thereby creating a community or even a world where love becomes the driving force behind actions and decisions.

Challenges and Commitment – Overcoming Obstacles: While love is often associated with positive emotions, continuous giving also requires commitment and perseverance, especially when circumstances are difficult. It might mean forgiving when it’s hard, giving when it seems there’s nothing left to give, or loving someone who is difficult to love.

The true test of love’s endurance comes in these moments, where the decision to keep giving reflects the depth and authenticity of that love. The Eternal Nature of Love – Love’s Legacy:

“Love Never Stops Giving” impacts generations, inspires others, and reflects the eternal nature of love itself. Such love is remembered long after other things fade because of it. By embracing a love that never stops giving, we enhance our lives and contribute to a more compassionate and loving society.  It’s okay, spread some love! It has the power to transform lives, both the giver and the receiver. Again it is a powerful statement that encapsulates the boundless and selfless nature of true love.

True Love Can Not Be Measured

HEART CHALLENGE: Scripture reminds us of some special things to remember that come from a loving relationship: Proverbs 10:12: Hatred stirs up quarrels, but love covers all offenses. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 – Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. Love does not demand its own way. Love is not irritable, and it keeps no record of when it has been wronged. It is never glad about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. The gifts that come from love are many. Here are a few: 1. forgiveness, 2. Patience, 3. Kindness, 4. love for truth, 5. love for justice, 6. love for the best in a person, 7. loyalty at any cost 8. belief in a person no matter what. Love does not allow for: 1. Jealousy, 2. Envy,  3. Pride, 4. a haughty spirit, 5. Selfishness, 6. rudeness, 7. a demand for one’s own way, 8. Irritability,9. Grudges!

A LOVING HEART: “Love Never Stops Giving” is a call to represent a love that is constant, selfless, and transformative, touching every aspect of life and leaving a lasting impact wherever it goes. Love that never stops giving leaves a lasting legacy. It impacts generations, inspires others, and reflects the eternal nature of love itself. Such love is remembered long after other things fade because it touches the heart and soul in profound ways. By embracing a love that never stops giving, individuals not only enhance their own lives but also contribute to a more compassionate and loving world.

PRAYER: Father God, thank You for Your Word that provides us as Believers in Christ with clear instructions as to how we are to love others. Help us to represent You well by not being stingy with our love because You are not stingy with Your love, in the Precious,  Powerful, and Preeminent name of Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord, Amen.
