The Heartbeat of God’s Will For Your Life

February 6, 2022

“In fact, if you know the right thing to do and don’t do it, that, for you, is evil.” James 4:17 (MSG)

“You chart the path ahead of me and tell me where to stop and rest. Every moment you know where I am.”  Psalm 139:3 (NLT)

How can you know God’s will for your life? One of the greatest travesties of this life is to live a lifetime and do not know what God’s will is for your life.  Equally important is, to know what God’s will is and do not do it.  Scripture tells in the gospel of Mark chapter 3 verse 35 that “Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.”  Jesus said that His true relations are those who know and do the Father’s will.”

On January 24, 2022, my father Rev. Oscar William Gentry Jr. was ushered into eternity. He was not only my father, he was also my Pastor for over 20 years.  He was 98 years old and had plenty of time to do what God had called Him to do.  There are many who were not graced with long life which behooves each of us not to waste time in becoming aware of what God’s will is for our lives and DO IT!

When we take our last breath and our heart ceases to beat, it will not matter how much money you have in the bank, what house(s) you own, what position you had at your company, or the car(s) you drove!  No, the real issue is whether you have been faithful, loved your neighbors, come to know God in a special way, and most of all completed  His will was for your life. God is vitally interested in every aspect of our lives, but His perfect will is that we do the work He has assigned for us to do and glorify HIM!

As Believers In Christ, There Are Some Things God Requires of Us That We Do Not Have Guess If It Is His Will!

God’s Will is Identifiable and Verifiable. The Apostle Paul was very clear in Romans 12:2! He says, “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is, His good, pleasing, and perfect will.”  First, we are to not be conformed to the world, and then we are to be transformed by the Spirit of God. In the process of transformation, the mind is being renewed according to the things of God, then and only then we can know God’s perfect will for our lives.

The problem comes when we want to know more than what God has revealed to us and we get impatient and began to guess and/or go off and do our own thing! Knowing God’s will requires patience. It is not uncommon to want to know ALL of what God’s will is immediately but that’s not how God usually works. He moves in His own time and reveals to us a step at a time, and each move is a step of faith in which He allows us to continue to trust Him. What is most important is that we must do what He has already told us to do, as we wait for further instructions and direction!  We do not have to go to anyone else, He will speak directly to us!

As we spend time in other relationships we get to know them better.   It is no different from our relationship with God. The more we get to know God, the more familiar we become with His ways.  As we walk with the Lord, obeying His Word and relying on His Spirit, we are given the mind of Christ.  We learn of Him, and that helps us to know His will. We find God’s guidance readily available.

Some of God’s Will of  For Our Lives!

God’s will is that we do everything as if we were doing it for Him. ~Proverbs 16:3. Commit your work to the Lord, and then your plans will succeed.

God’s will is that we love others and love must be our highest goal! 1 Corinthians 14:2. “Let love be your highest goal! But you should also desire the special abilities the Spirit gives especially the ability to prophesy. For if you have the ability to speak in tongues, you will be talking only to God, since people won’t be able to understand you. You will be speaking by the power of the Spirit, but it will all be mysterious. (NLT)

It is the will of God that we live under the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit. Galatians 5:22 “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!” (NLT)

His will is that we obey His laws for living. Exodus 20:1-2 Then God gave the people all these instructions I am the LORD your God, who rescued you from the land of Egypt, the place of your slavery. (NLT) Then God instructed the people as follows. The Ten Commandments are an excellent summary of 10 divine rules for human conduct. They might be called rules of (1) religion, (2) worship, (3) reverence, (4) time, (5) authority, (6) life, (7) purity, (8) property, (9) tongue, and (10) contentment.

God’s will is that we seek justice at all times and that we do what is right. Amos 5:24 “But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!” (NIV)

God’s will is that we serve others, putting them above ourselves. Mark 10:43-45 (NLT)
But among you, it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

A WILLING HEART:  Jeremiah 29:11 “I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out, plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.” (MSG)  God’s plans for us are always for good. Unknown plans can be frightening, but when the plans belong to God, we can rest assured that we can expect something marvelous

FATHER GOD: Thank You, for what you have provided for us.  We have the opportunity to walk with You, learn of You, Your Word, and the work of the Holy Spirit, to know Your revealed will for our lives.  Help us to rest in You and allow You to have Your wonderful way in our lives, in the Precious, Powerful, and Preeminent Name of Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord, Amen!
