The Heartbeat of Accountability

 April 18, 2021

“Yes, each of us will give a personal account to God. So, let’s stop condemning each other. Decide instead to live in such a way that you will not cause another believer to stumble and fall.”

Romans 14:12-13 (NLT)

There is Power in Accountability Who are you Accountable to or who keeps you Accountable?

I signed up for a John Maxwell leadership class a couple of months ago, in part because of the instructor whom I met several years ago.  In the other part, I obeyed God’s prompting because I did not even have time for a class.  As part of the class, I was assigned an accountability partner.  You know when it is a God-Thing because we had much in common and we both were retired, Registered Nurses.

It is amazing how God brings people across your path.  As children of God, we are free in Christ; however, each of us will have to give a personal account to God and not to others for all that we do. So, is it biblical to have an Accountability Partner?  Absolutely!

In view of the fact that we as Believers are accountable to Christ, where does an Accountability Partner come in? Why should you even have an Accountability Partner? Glad you asked.

There is Power in ACCOUNTABILITY!  The question is “Can God Trust You With His Word and His Child?” Finding your way through the complexities of life can sometimes be an exhausting task! God’s Word provides the standards and parameters for your everyday dilemmas.

An Accountability Partner:

♦  is a Christian who pairs up with another for the sake of mutual edification and exhortation.

♦  provides support, and encouragement keeps us balanced and guards us against taking liberties. They know the Word of God and share it truthfully with love!

♦  should be someone you can trust to be discreet and keep confidential information confidential. “He who is trustworthy in spirit keeps a thing covered.” (Proverbs 11:13).

♦ will be one who understands FORGIVENESS and is compassionate and understanding of life’s struggles. (Colossians 3:13; Ephesians 4:32).

♦ it is important that an accountability partner accentuates the positive, not the negative conversation. To sit around discussing the sins with which we all struggle is not biblical! The key is to think on Christ, on lovely things, trusting God to sanctify us, as He has promised (Philippians 4:8).

♦  lastly, is accountable and has the freedom to ask for an account.

We should also trust our accountability partner to have the courage to tell us the truth. The truth hurts sometimes, but we know that “wounds from a friend can be trusted” (Proverbs 27:6).

RX: A STABLE ♥️ HEART

“Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”

James 5:16

To become more accountable, follow God’s commands as outlined in the Bible His Word.

FATHER GOD: Thank You for being our Ultimate Accountable Partner! Help us to always be mindful that You Father God hold us accountable – that You sees all, knows all, and nothing is hidden from You. Fix our hearts so we can be used by You Father, in the Precious, Powerful, and Preeminent Name of Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord, Amen.
