February 23, 2025

“Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.” Ephesians 4:32
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6

“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18

“Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.”1 John 4:7-8

Early in my nursing career, while working at a small private hospital in Texas, we operated under Standing Physician’s Orders – pre-approved medical interventions that allowed for immediate and necessary treatments without requiring a physician’s direct approval each time. These trusted protocols ensured that patients received timely care and relief for common ailments.

As the night supervisor, there were times I had to approve many of the prescriptions before it could be administered just in case there are some possible underlying concerns to consider.  However, most of the time these “Standing Physician’s Orders”  were used for patients who had nonlife-threatening medical concerns, those who were unable to sleep, those who had elevated temperature, nausea/vomiting, or upset stomach, mild pain, or an immediate response to chest pain.

Over the years, through my experiences in various areas of nursing, education, and administration, I began to see parallels between medical conditions and spiritual issues/principles. This realization became a foundational theme in my book, Every Beat of My Heart, which continues to shape the insights I share with women today.

Spiritual Emergency Response: Just as hospitals establish protocols for treating physical and emotional ailments, God, as our Prescribing Great Physician, has already provided Spiritual Standing Orders for our emotional, relational, and spiritual well-being. These divine prescriptions, found in Scripture, are always available, ready to bring healing, wholeness, and restoration to those who apply them.

It became profoundly clear to me that who we are and everything we do flows from the condition of our hearts. The deepest healing happens from within, where life’s wounds are transformed into sources of strength and wisdom.”

HEART CHALLENGE:

Examine The Soil of Your Heart! What seeds are you planting through your thoughts, actions, and relationships? Are they producing life and godliness, or do they need to be uprooted and replaced?

Guard Your Heart Against Deception! Have you ever been tempted to believe that your choices, or the choices of others, have no lasting impact? Galatians 6:7 reminds us that we reap what we sow. How does this truth challenge your mindset today?

Align Your Heart With The Spirit of Christ! In what areas of your life do you need to stop sowing to the flesh and begin sowing to the Spirit? What steps can you take today to nurture a harvest that glorifies God?

A HEALED HEART:  Finding Wholeness Through God’s Prescriptions.  A healed heart is one that has been restored by God’s love, freed from the toxic emotions and burdens of past wounds, and aligned with His peace. It is no longer weighed down by anger, bitterness, or fear but instead overflows with grace, joy, and purpose. A healed heart is:

  • Free from Unforgiveness: Ephesians 4:32. It releases resentment and embraces the power of grace, recognizing that forgiveness is not just for others but also for our own spiritual freedom.
  • Rooted in Peace: Rx-Philippians 4:7Anxiety and worry no longer dominate, as trust in God replaces fear. A healed heart rests in the promise that He is in control.
  • Whole and Undivided:  Psalm 86:11. No longer torn between faith and doubt, it fully trusts God’s goodness, walking confidently in His will.
  • Overflowing with Love: 1 John 4:7-8. A heart touched by God’s healing love radiates kindness, compassion, and patience, seeking to uplift others.
  • Strong and Resilient:  Romans 5:3-5.  Though trials may come, a healed heart stands firm, knowing that suffering produces perseverance, character, and hope.
  • Aligned with God’s Purpose:  Jeremiah 29:11A healed heart beats in rhythm with God’s calling, no longer hindered by the wounds of the past but empowered to walk in destiny.

The Heartbeat of Wholeness does not come from perfection, it comes from PURPOSE! There is no purpose in a perfect heart. But there is purpose in a broken one.

A healed heart doesn’t mean life is without challenges, but it means we respond to those challenges with faith instead of fear, love instead of resentment, and peace instead of turmoil. It is the evidence of God’s transformative power working within us.

PRAYER:  Father God, thank You for Your authoritative, inerrant, and inspired Word that reminds us of Your healing and restorative power that gives us clear instructions on how to be healed. Help us to apply Your Word to the emotional and spiritual ailments to become transformed and whole, in the Precious, Powerful, and Preeminent name of Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord, Amen.
