“If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 (NIV)
”Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, The people whom He has chosen for His own inheritance.” Psalms 33:12 (NASB)

Several days ago, on the July 4th celebration, as fireworks lit the sky and patriotic songs filled the air, we were reminded of the blessings of freedom. Yet beneath the celebration lies a sobering reality: our nation is hurting. Division runs deep, trust in leadership is fractured, and fear often overshadows hope. But in times like these, God’s people are not called to retreat in despair, we are called to rise in intercession.
I have worked for nearly four decades in various aspects of healthcare – administration, education, community healthcare, and direct patient care. Today, I have never seen such widespread fear expressed across media and social platforms. I’ve received several phone calls from individuals who were overwhelmed, expressing concern, even panic, about the future of healthcare in America.
Through the years, I have witnessed the excellence, the good, the bad, and even the ugly in the delivery of healthcare. I’ve spent countless hours in physicians’ offices, advocating for fair and dignified care for those with disabilities. I have stood in the gap for patients with mental and behavioral health issues – individuals who had no voice, and families who lacked the knowledge or tools to make informed and wise decisions.
Review our history, and it shows you how it has taught us the disparity in medical care – some examples: Trail of Tears, the Tuskegee Syphilis Incident, and many others. But impartiality, justice, and freedom are more than the absence of oppression. It is the presence of God’s peace and purpose in our lives and our land. And the path to national healing does not begin in the halls of government, it begins in the hearts of God’s people.
No leader rises or falls apart of God’s Sovereignty! It is not the man who defines the moment of history, it is the message from God!
As Believers in Christ, we are called to Intercede. God desires that every Believer be active in intercessory prayer. What an awesome and glorious privilege we have to be able to come boldly before the throne of our Holy God with our prayers and requests! Intercessory prayer is a powerful expression of love, faith, and spiritual partnership with God. It’s standing in the gap for others, lifting up their needs, struggles, and hopes before the Lord. Through God-ordained Scripture-based intercession, we align our prayers with God’s will and promises, making them both purposeful and Spirit-led.
In moments of national uncertainty, fear, and moral decline, it can be tempting to point fingers, at leaders, systems, or society at large. But the healing of a nation does not begin with those in temporary power. It begins with the people of God.
Notice this call doesn’t begin with “if the politicians,” or “if the unbelievers,” but “if My people.”
We are the ones who bear His name.
We are the ones entrusted with spiritual authority.
And we are the ones God is calling to step in the gap.
Our prayers carry power, not because of who we are, but because of who He is. The Creator of the universe has invited us into a divine partnership: to stand before Him on behalf of our families, communities, and nations. The Lord invites us to partner with Him in healing this land. It is a high calling, and it comes with a clear pathway to restoration:
Humility – laying aside pride, politics, and self-righteousness. This is where it begins. We must lay down our pride, our political biases, and our self-righteous attitudes. Humility is not thinking less of ourselves but thinking of ourselves less, and recognizing our total dependence on God. Pride divides; humility unites. Only humble hearts can bring healing to a broken land.
Prayer – not reactive outrage, but intentional intercession. Not passive, routine, or reactive prayer, but intentional intercession. This kind of prayer presses in when it’s uncomfortable persists when answers are delayed, and believes God’s Word above the noise of the world. Intercessory prayer is a sacred act, standing between what is and what can be, pleading for God’s mercy, wisdom, and direction.
Seeking His face – turning our attention back to God, not just solutions. In times of crisis, it’s easy to seek quick solutions or political strategies. But God calls us to seek His face, not just His hand. This means prioritizing His presence over answers. When we seek His face, we are transformed—not just informed. Our desires align with His will, and we begin to reflect His heart for the nation.
Repentance – acknowledging that judgment begins with the house of God noted in 1 Peter 4:17, “For it is time for judgment to begin with God’s household…” and revival starts when we return to Him. True revival is impossible without genuine repentance. And it begins not with “them,” but with us. We must examine our own hearts, confess our own sins, and turn from anything that grieves the Holy Spirit. Revival does not come through religious performance—it comes through brokenness and surrender.

YOUR HEART
CHALLENGE: A Freed Heart that Stands in the Gap. Freedom in Christ is not just for personal comfort; it is the fuel for courageous intercession. Galatians 5:1 says, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.” But freedom without purpose is wasted. Today, God is calling us to use our freedom to fight, not in the flesh, but in the Spirit.
Will you stand in the gap for your nation, for your community, for your neighbor, and for your family?
Will you commit, not just to celebrating freedom, but to stewarding it through prayer?
“Lord, my heart is not proud; my eyes are not haughty. I don’t concern myself with matters too great or too awesome for me to grasp. Instead, I have calmed and quieted myself, like a weaned child who no longer cries for its mother’s milk. Yes, like a weaned child is my soul within me.” Psalms 131:1-2 (NLT)
“This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, reminds us, that there is ‘a time to be silent and a time to speak.”

A PRAYING
HEART: Again, a call to intercede is more than just prayer; it is standing in the gap for others, pleading with God on behalf of a hurting world. As Believers in Christ, we are called to be spiritual watchmen, lifting up our families, communities, and nation, laying aside distractions and returning to our first love ~ You! In a time when fear and division threaten the soul of our land, our prayers matter. They invite God’s presence, release His power, and align our hearts with His purposes. When we intercede, we become vessels of healing, hope, and restoration.
The Intercessor’s Heart stands in the gap for others, cultivating a heart that feels what God feels, a heart broken for what breaks His heart. An intercessor’s heart is not hardened by cynicism or dulled by distraction. It is awakened to the pain around us and moved with compassion, just as Jesus was when He saw the crowds and was moved to act – Matthew 9:36, “Seeing the people, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dispirited like sheep without a shepherd.” (NASB)
When was the last time you wept over the state of our land? Or truly pleaded for the soul of your city, your community, your home? The intercessor’s heart is not a comfortable heart, it is a surrendered one!
Lord, awaken Your people. Help us to lay aside distractions and return to our first love, You. May our prayers rise like incense, inviting Your Spirit to move across this nation. Unite us in Your truth, cover us in Your peace, and restore our land by Your grace.
PRAYER: Father God, thank You for Your authoritative, inerrant, and inspired Word that gives us clear instructions on how we can humbly intercede for the condition of our nation and those in need. Father, we come before You because You are our only hope, and we cry out for Your mercy and grace. Heal the deep wounds of division, injustice, and fear that grips our land. Forgive us for turning away, for trusting in human wisdom more than divine truth. Heal the brokenness in our land and begin with our hearts. Forgive us for the times we have been silent when we should have spoken, and passive when You called us to pray. Give us a committed intercessor’s heart, softened, surrendered, and stirred by Your Spirit. Stir us to intercede with compassion and boldness. Let us not be passive observers of chaos but bold carriers of Your presence. Father, please restore unity, righteousness, and justice in our nation. And let our freedom in Christ lead us to a deeper dependence on You in the Precious, Powerful, and Preeminent name of Jesus Christ, our Savior, and Lord. Amen.
