“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Hebrews 13:8

Life is unpredictable! It is often filled with swift transitions, some welcomed and others unexpected. One moment, everything seems to be in place, and the next moment, things have changed – never to be the same again. One day, everything feels secure, and the next, we’re navigating uncharted waters, challenges staring us in the face!
The Christmas season often reminds us of the joy of God’s blessings, but it can also highlight areas of loss, hardship, or unmet expectations. In these moments, where do we turn? The story of Christmas offers a profound answer: the Hope of Christ is HOPE Beyond our Circumstances. His birth was God’s declaration that even in our most difficult circumstances, we can trust in His unchanging nature.
Growing up in church I am reminded of the song we sang, Hold To God’s Unchanging Hand! I want to share it with you today!
Verse 1
Time is filled with swift transition
Naught of earth unmoved can stand
Build your hopes on things eternal
Hold to God’s unchanging hand
Verse 2
Trust in Him who will not leave you
Whatsoever years may bring
If by earthly friends forsaken
Still more closely to Him cling
Verse 3
Covet not this world’s vain riches
That so rapidly decay
Seek to gain the heavenly treasures
That will never pass away
Verse 4
When your journey is completed
If to God you have been true
Fair and bright the home in glory
Your enraptured soul will view
Chorus
Hold to His hand
God’s unchanging hand
Hold to His hand God’s unchanging hand
Build your hopes on things eternal
Hold to God’s Unchanging Hand!
~ When life is often feels uncertain, this song reminds us to Hold to God’s Unchanging Hand and remember that God’s promises do not expire. His love, mercy, grace and faithfulness are steadfast.
~ In these moments of uncertainty that we often feel the most vulnerable, searching for something, someone unchanging to cling to, Hold to God’s Unchanging Hand!
~ When you witness life swiftly change for whatever reason: Hold to God’s Unchanging Hand!
~ When the Christmas holidays can amplify these feelings, joy entwined with sorrow; our celebrations are shadowed by struggles, Hold to God’s Unchanging Hand! ♥ While life’s circumstances may shift, the hope of Christ remains unchanging and eternal, reminding us that there is Hope Beyond Circumstances!
The Christmas story is a powerful reminder that our hope doesn’t rest in perfect circumstances but in the perfect Savior.
The Believer in Christ’s Hope is a confident expectation and trust in the promises of God, grounded in His character, His Word, and the finished work of Jesus Christ. This hope transcends the uncertainties and struggles of this life and offers assurance of eternal life, peace, and restoration.![]()
How Are The Believers in Christ’s Hope is Beyond Our Circumstances:
- Hope in Salvation and Eternal Life: Christians have the assurance of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. This includes the promise of eternal life with God, as stated in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” This hope is not based on human effort but on God’s grace and faithfulness: “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast,” Ephesians 2:8-9
- Hope in our Savior’s Resurrection: The resurrection of Jesus is the foundation of Christian hope. Because Christ conquered death, believers have the promise of their own resurrection and eternal life in 1 Corinthians 15:20-22.
- Hope of Glory: Believers look forward to the time when they will share in God’s glory, free from sin, suffering, and death. Romans 8:18 says: “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.”
- Hope in God’s Presence and Comfort. Hebrews 13:5 reminds us that “In the midst of trials, Christians find hope in the presence of God, who promises never to leave or forsake His people.” Psalm 46:1 reminds believers that “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
- Hope for Transformation: Through the Holy Spirit, believers are transformed into the image of Christ. Philippians 1:6 assures Christians that “He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.”
- Hope in Christ’s Return: Believer’s in Christ’s Hope eagerly anticipate the return of Jesus Christ, when all things will be made new and justice will prevail noted in Revelation 21:4. Titus 2:13 calls this the “blessed hope” of believers: “waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.”
- Hope as an Anchor for the Soul: Believer’s in Christ’s Hope is described as an anchor that holds believers steady through life’s storms, rooted in God’s unchanging promises noted in Hebrews 6:19.
- Hope Beyond Circumstances. Believer’s in Christ’s Hope is not dependent on external situations but on the certainty of God’s promises. Romans 5:3-5 states: “We rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame.”
As Believers in Christ Our Hope is unshakable because it is rooted in God’s eternal promises, demonstrated through the
life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and sustained by the Holy Spirit. It is a hope that transforms, lives now and points to a glorious future. While life’s circumstances may shift, the hope of Christ remains unchanging and eternal.
HEART CHALLENGE: Why Should You Trust God as Your HOPE? God cannot lie because He is truth. God, therefore, cannot break His promises. His words stand forever. God must be trusted for our hope because He alone conquered death by raising Christ from the dead.
Hebrews 6:18-19 reminds us that God has given us both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can take new courage, for we can hold on to his promise with confidence. This confidence is like a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain of heaven into God’s inner sanctuary.”
Hebrews 10:23 says “Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.”
1 Peter 1:21. Through Christ you have come to trust in God. And because God raised Christ from the dead and gave him great glory, your faith and hope can be placed confidently in God.
This Christmas, hold tightly to God’s unchanging hand. Life’s circumstances may shift, but His promises are eternal. Just as the hymn encourages us, build your hope not on the fleeting moments of life but on the firm foundation of Christ. His hand is steady, His love unshaken, and His hope eternal.

A HOPEFUL
HEART: Again, the Believer in Christ has a hopeful hope that is unshakable because it is rooted in God’s eternal promises, demonstrated through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and sustained by the Holy Spirit.
It is a hope that transforms, lives now and points to a glorious future.
This Christmas, let us remember that while life’s circumstances may shift, however the hope of Christ is unchanging and eternal. As we celebrate His birth, may we find comfort in His promises and share His hope with the world, just as Mary and Joseph trusted God and Held to God’s Unchanging Hand!
God does not love us because we are loveable, but because of His nature to do so. Allow His divine nature to work in your life so you love others the way God does, and so the world can see HIM through you.
PRAYER: Father God, thank You for Your authoritative, inerrant, and inspired Word that gives us clear instructions on how we can have HOPE in a world of swift transitions. Help us to trust in Your promises that anchor us in Your hope. May we share the light of Your unchanging love with those around us this Christmas season. Help us to keep our eyes on eternity in the Precious, Powerful, and Preeminent name of Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord, Amen.
