The Heartbeat of God’s Perfect Timing

August 14, 2022

“Be still in the presence of the LORD and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes.”  Psalm 37:7 (NLT)

“These things I plan won’t happen right away. Slowly, steadily, surely, the time approaches when the vision will be fulfilled. If it seems slow, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed.”  Habakkuk 2:3 (NLT)

Most people would admit that waiting is one of the most difficult things in life to do.  It does not matter what you are waiting for.  You may be waiting for a promotion, an important phone call, healing in your body, a family healing, and restoration, or provision for your vision.  Have you prayed and cried, cried and prayed, and God has remained silent on your behalf?

We live in a microwave society and our human nature can make waiting for God’s perfect timing difficult for anything or anyone. We want what we want now and with our modern technological advances, we’re often able to get some material things rather quickly. Some orders from Amazon can often be delivered within 24 hours, and I must admit, I love it!  As a result, we are not only losing our patience but also finding it increasingly difficult to discern God’s timing.

How Can You Know What God’s Timing Is? Waiting for God to act in the affairs of your life is equally difficult and if you are honest there are times when you even get impatient with God! We do not give God orders and we do not operate on God’s time!

The Greeks have two words for time, Kairos (καιρός) and Chronos (χρόνος). We operate on Chronos time a quantitative time referring to chronological or sequential time, expressed as  (clock) time. God operates in Kairos time, a qualitative or an appointed time. He dwells in a different realm, the spirit realm, which is beyond the perception of our physical senses. It is a permanent time meaning the right, critical, proper time, or season. It is an opportune time, a call for action, conversion, and transformation.  It is a “spiritual opportunity and favor! It is a Kairos Moment when God acts and everything changes.”  We live in a physical world with its four known space-time dimensions of length, width, height, depth, and time. God is spirit and not limited by the physical laws of our world. The Prophet, reminds us in Isaiah 57:15, “The high and lofty one who lives in eternity, the Holy One, says this: “I live in the high and holy place with those whose spirits are contrite and humble. I restore the crushed spirit of the humble and revive the courage of those with repentant hearts.” (NLT)

The one thing that is certain is that in God’s time to act, it is perfect timing! The Psalmist says in Psalm 18:30, that God’s way is perfect, all the LORD’s promises prove true. He is a shield for all who look to him for protection.” (NLT). His timing is not our timing, it is HIS timing, and He is never late because God is omniscient and knows more than us. In fact, in our lifetimes, from before our birth until the moment we take our last earthly breath, our sovereign God is accomplishing His divine purposes.  Whatever it is you are waiting for, it will be manifested in God’s perfect timing.

We can be excited that we serve a God that is in complete control of everything and everyone from eternity to eternity. No event in history can affect the timing of God’s eternal plan for our lives, which He designed before the foundation of the world.

From our perspective, God sometimes seems slow to intervene on our behalf. But what might appear slow to us is good timing from God’s perspective. There is a danger in doubting or resenting God’s timing. God’s timing is important and perfect, and it is not affected by our impatience. The secret to peace with God is to discover, accept, and appreciate God’s perfect timing.

How do we overcome God’s silence and His timing because His timing is not affected by our impatience?  The Apostle Peter reminds us in Second Peter 3:8-9 and says, But you must not forget this one thing, dear friends: A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day. The Lord is not really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed but wants everyone to repent. But the day of the Lord will come as unexpectedly as a thief. Then the heavens will pass away with a terrible noise, and the very elements themselves will disappear in fire, and the earth and everything on it will be found to deserve judgment.” (NLT)  It’s easy to become impatient while waiting for God to act, but we must never give up on HIM!

The nature of God’s Timing requires that we practice patience which is spiritual fruit. Scripture makes it clear that God is pleased with us when we display this virtue as noted in Psalm 37:7 “Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for Him.” Another key to understanding God’s timing is trust. Our ability to wait on the Lord is largely related to how much we trust Him. When we trust in God with all of our hearts, we can count on Him to give us direction, Proverbs 3:5-6. We must remember that God operates according to His perfect and foreordained eternal schedule, not ours.

RX: A TRUSTING HEART: Isaiah 40:31. But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. (NLT)  We should take great comfort in knowing that, when we wait on the LORD, we receive divine energy and strength: The psalmist reiterates in Psalm 27:14 “Wait on the LORD; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the LORD!”

FATHER GOD: Thank You, Father, for Your perfect timing in our lives, and help us to always resist the temptation to take matters into our own hands. in the Precious, Powerful and Preeminent Name of Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord, Amen.
