“Above all, you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ. Then, whether I come and see you again or only hear about you, I will know that you are standing together with one spirit and one purpose, fighting together for the faith, which is the Good News.
Philippians 1:27-28 (NLT)

“Don’t be intimidated in any way by your enemies. This will be a sign to them that they are going to be destroyed, but that you are going to be saved, even by God himself. For you have been given not only the privilege of trusting in Christ but also the privilege of suffering for him. We are in this struggle together. You have seen my struggle in the past, and you know that I am still in the midst of it.” Philippians 1:28 (NLT)
The Apostle Paul writes this letter from prison while awaiting trial admonishing the Philippians to walk worthy of their calling! To “walk” in the New Testament often refers to our daily conduct. The Greek word for “worthy” refers to a balance, as on scales.
In essence, the way we live and conduct our lives should be a compliment to the Unparalleled Grace that our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, has conferred upon us. Being a Believer in Jesus Christ is indeed a high calling. We are to live worthy of the Gospel – the Good News.
It does not mean that we must live perfect lives because it is simply impossible to live such a life without the help of the Holy Spirit. However, as Believers, we should live differently because of the grace we have received. At the moment of Salvation (accepting Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Savior), at the moment of surrounding your life to Christ, the Holy Spirit takes up residence in your heart. He is there to help you live a life worthy of being called a child of God.
As Believers, we become heirs of His promises and members of Christ’s body. And this privilege was bought at a price, the precious blood of Jesus Christ. As Believers, we should reflect love, humility, gentleness, patience, understanding, peacefulness, strength, endurance, and gratitude to God in every aspect of our lives on earth.
How Can We Walk Worthy? The practical application of theology is exhorting us to “walk worthy” of our calling and position in Christ: To walk worthy is tied to four personal characteristics:
~ being fruitful in every good work
~ steadily increasing in the knowledge of God
~ using the power of God to joyfully endure and patiently persevere, and
~ giving thanks to the Father for what He has done.

Ephesians 4:1-3. “As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” (NIV)
FATHER GOD: Thank You for Your Unparalleled Grace! HELP us to live “in balance lives. May our behavior match what we say we believe. Help us to remember Your sacrifice and live our lives to bring You glory, in the Precious, Powerful and Preeminent Name of Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord, Amen.![]()
