The Heartbeat of Godly Discipline

May 16, 2021

For our earthly fathers disciplined us for a few years, doing the best they knew how. But God’s discipline is always good for us so that we might share in His holiness. No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening it’s painful! But afterward, there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way.”

Hebrews 12:10 (NLT)

When you hear the word Discipline, what immediately comes to mind? For many, it is associated with ‘Punishment’. I immediately thought of the only time my dad disciplined my oldest brother Eugene and myself when we were young children, and TRUST ME one time was enough!

The Word of God is the Guidebook that helps us to understand godly discipline!  According to the Word of God, the goal of godly discipline is God’s method of developing us to will and walk in HIS ways.

~  We tend to think of discipline as keeping others in line, however, at the Heartbeat of Discipline is discipling; helping us to become principally followers of Christ. God always uses loving discipline, guidance, and teaching to usher us to maturity in Him.

The English word Discipline comes from the Latin word Discipulus, which means pupil or learner.

~ We need discipline because we need to learn something, and as God’s children we ALWAYS need to learn something HE desires for us. As Parents, we must discipline our children out of love to live proper and respective lives.

Our loving heavenly Father Disciplines all His Children. God’s Discipline to His Children at times appears tough, but He does it lovingly for our benefit.  Because God knows His children, and He knows just what we need.

Sometimes God Disciplines us because of SIN, in our lives, other times God Disciplines us to Develop our Character. God Loves Us So Much, He will do whatever He desires to get our attention to bring us to maturity in HIM!  That requires DISCIPLINE!

God wants us to divorce fleshly engagement!  When we operate in Flesh, we attract Fleshly Thinking and Behavior!

The Psalmist says in Psalm 119, “I used to wander off until YOU Disciplined me, but now I closely follow Your Word.

~ Discipline can keep us following God’s Word more closely.

~ Discipline in the forms of trials and tragedies can keep us following God’s Word more closely and teach us to trust in God’s power if our attitude is right.

RX: A DISCIPLINED♥️HEART

I used to wander off until you disciplined me, but now I closely follow your word. Psalm 119:67. (NLT)

FATHER GOD: Thank You, for being our disciplining parent and also our Divine Commanding Coach who loves us so much, who disciple us, who pushes us to our limits, and requires our lives to be disciplined, in the Precious, Powerful and Preeminent Name of Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord, Amen
